About me

Leslie Dannhaus, LPC

About me

With over 13 years’ experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor, I enjoy having the opportunity to help people make significant changes in their lives. In my own journey, I have found self-compassion and mindful awareness to be especially helpful. In addition to traditional counseling, I also utilize a technique called Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to target specific problems in a short amount of time. As a Master ART Practitioner, I have seen impressive results using this technique. Click here to learn more about the types of therapy services I provide.

GETTING BETTER

Renowned author Michael Josephson said “you don’t have to be sick to get better.” I believe this is true of counseling. Many people seek counseling as a way to recover from trauma, process their thoughts and concerns, or simply talk about what is bothering them. I believe the healing process occurs in counseling when a counselor and client are able to truly connect in a meaningful way. Empathy and understanding are keys to this relationship and the relationship works as the catalyst to change.

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, “Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.” I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”

Carl R. Rogers, A Way of Being

My Philosophy

Similar to well-known psychologist Carl Rogers, I use a client-centered approach, meaning you are the expert on what is best for you. My goal as therapist is to assist with removing the obstacles (whether seen or unseen) to growth. I have found that this approach fosters personal growth and self-confidence to provide long-lasting results.
